How do I join & how much does it cost?

New members are warmly welcome to 'try before they buy' with a no obligation, free taster rehearsal. If you'd like to come along for a trial rehearsal, please email Lesley Johnson at community.choir@mountbatten.hants.sch.uk so that we can organise music for you in advance.

Membership is priced at £40 per term, paid through the online portal

What type of music does the choir sing?

The choir sings music in a wide range of styles, from musical theatre to pop, folk songs to opera choruses and everything in between! You can get a flavour of what we sing by scrolling through the rehearsal tracks page.

When does the choir rehearse?

We meet on Thursday evenings during term time from 7 - 8.30pm, either in the Lantern Theatre (Performing Arts building) or the Olympic Hall (main building). A weekly email is sent confirming the following week's rehearsal location. Term dates are published each year and generally correspond to the Hampshire schools' term dates.

Do I have to audition?

No - the choir is totally unauditioned. All we need is enthusiasm for singing!

Do I have to read music?

No - we work from sheet music, but many of our members don't read music and rehearsal tracks are available on this blog.

Do I have to pay for copies of music?

Much of our music is arranged especially for the choir. Occasionally, commercial arrangements are purchased and choir members have the option of borrowing from the choir or purchasing their own copy if they wish to make notes.

Do I have to learn words?

We try to perform without music wherever possible, but when we sing longer sets or perform in a more informal context, copies are used as an aide-mémoire.

Does the choir perform?

Yes - the choir has a busy performance schedule in Romsey and beyond. Our forthcoming events page gives a flavour of what we're up to!
